The Bonita Springs Assistance Office Emergency Food Pantry Program provides food supplies to households in a crisis situation. A system of distribution of food is in place in order to serve the families according to their specifics needs and situation. As a general guideline and according to the food supplies families receive food every 30 days average.
The number of people in need of food assistance has been steadily climbing. In 2008 BSAO Food Pantry served monthly 35 families with an average of four children: about 140 to 150 individuals per month. In 2009, we served over 50 families on a monthly basis, over 200 individuals, who 120 are children. They received over 2,000 pounds of food from BSAO Food Pantry each month. As we are serving a larger area, the demand always seems to be greater than our current resources.
